The Fight for the Skies
While escorting a formation of B-17s back from their target in Germany, 2nd Lt Clinton Burdick and Mustangs of the 356th Fighter Group intercept an attacking Schwarm of Fw190s south of Dümmer, in January 1945. During the savage dogfight, the Luftwaffe fighters are completely overwhelmed, and Burdick claims 2 Fw190s in quick succession, putting him on the verge of Ace Status.
This special print edition bears the original signatures of SEVEN of America’s great Mustang Aces who flew against Hitler’s Luftwaffe in World War II. In addition to Clinton Burdick (featured in this scene), aces of the Eighth, Fifteenth and even RCAF are represented here, who accumulated a combined total of over 65 enemy aircraft destroyed in air-to-air combat alone, not including the many additional destroyed aircraft on the ground in enemy territory; it’s indeed a privilege to preserve their legacy through art, of the days in which these veterans fought tyranny and achieved victory in World War II.
